The John Davis Gallery began in Akron, Ohio in 1981, showing mostly abstract painters from New York City. In 1985, John then moved the gallery to Broadway at Prince Street with a focus on painting and sculpture The gallery moved in the 1990’s to Hudson, New York, where the shows were mounted in a two story exhibition space, a sunken sculpture garden and a four story carriage house. The carriage house and a four story elevator shaft allowed artists to transform large spaces with installations and experimental work. In 2004-2005 the John Davis Gallery was offered a space in Manhattan for a year. Here his artists were shown with resulting reviews in Art in America, ArtNews, ArtCritical.com and various other New York publications. Upon his return to Hudson, he secured the same gallery space as before, providing the main galleries, sculpture garden and experimental carriage house.
